PIONEERS at Waterborne Days 2023

This year, the Waterborne Days were held in the heart of Europe, Brussels, Belgium, from September 26th to 27th, 2023. Organised through a collaboration between the LASTING consortium and the European Commission, the two-day conference gathered experts from the maritime and inland navigation industries to discuss the state of play of R&I, serving as a great opportunity to shape the future of research and development in the waterborne transport sector, while actively contributing to the Green and Digital transition.

The second day of the conference was focused on roundtable discussions, addressing the most pressing issues impacting the waterborne transport sector, such as:

• Europe’s role in R&I in global efforts towards emissions reductions

• Obstacles and enablers for market uptake in the waterborne transport sector

• Building a resilient and competitive waterborne transport sector

• R&I’s role in facilitating the modal shift to inland waterways

PIONEERS coordinator Inge de Wolf (Port of Antwerp-Bruges), and Giannis Kanellopoulos (ICCS) participated in the port’s workshop on 27 September 2023 to discuss the current technological gaps to achieve net-zero solutions goals by 2030. Manuela Flachi from Magellan Circle and Tomas Ambra from ALICE also attended the conference.
