MAGPIE, the sister project of PIONEERS, organised the MAGPIE Start Conference that took place on Thursday, 10 March 2022 at the Nieuwe Luxor Theatre, in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The one-day conference witnessed the presence of 17 speakers and 45 organizations members of the EU-funded consortium, as well as several external partners. The event gathered 120 physical attendees and more than 100 online participants.
During the conference, PIONEERS was represented by the coordinator Inge De Wolf from Port of Antwerp, in which she participated in a tour de table together with Cédric Virciglio of HAROPA PORT, Gunnar Platz representing DeltaPort GmbH & Co. KG and Miguel Vieira de Castro of Port of Sines.
Moreover, the content of the Work Packages and a range of demonstration projects were discussed during the event, which goals are to accelerate and maximize green transport in the port area and thus strengthen the role of ports in the energy supply chains.
Representatives of the EU Commission, the EU Parliament, and the European Sea Ports Organization (ESPO) gave presentations on how the MAGPIE project connects to the EU Green Deal and how it will impact civil society. The Youth was represented by students from Erasmus University Rotterdam and Delft University of Technology, who were an integral part of the conference giving their feedback for the project and its impacts on their future.
