PIONEERS at IAME Conference 2024

The International Association of Maritime Economists (IAME) Conference 2024 took place from 26-28 June in Valencia, Spain, bringing together experts to reflect on critical changes and challenges in the maritime industry. This year’s theme, “Building Innovative Maritime Ecosystems: Smart, Green & Valuable for Society,” emphasized the ongoing transformation of ports, maritime transport, and logistics through technological innovation, environmental sustainability, and societal integration.

Lorenzo Franchi, a researcher and PhD student from Antwerp Management School, attended the conference and presented his research during Parallel Session 8 on 28 June. In his presentation, titled “Determinants Influencing Technology Adoption in Maritime Supply Chain: The Role of Human-Related Interdependencies,” focused on the theme of Automatisation and Digitalisation, Lorenzo presented his latest research findings, among many achievements, he shared exciting results from his work on the PIONEERS project.

The IAME Conference 2024 provided a platform for in-depth discussions on the technological revolution, the transition to a greener maritime community, and the importance of societal integration. Experts and participants engaged in enriching debates, proposing measures to address these challenges and promoting their implementation.

Co-organised by the Fundación Valenciaport, Port Authority of Valencia, and the University of Valencia, the IAME Conference 2024 successfully connected industry and academia, fostering collaboration and innovation.
