The 43rd edition of the Concrete Day took place in Leuven, Belgium, on November 9th, 2023.

Organised by the Belgium Concrete Group (GBB), the program featured several activities such as discussion panels, workshops, demonstrations, a student contest and an exhibition area.

PIONEERS consortium partner Buildwise participated at the event through a dedicated stand where attendees had the opportunity to discover the demo on local resource recovery for green and circular concrete, one of the 19 demos of the PIONEERS project, and actually experiment the sand Zandstock A12.

This demo explores an innovative, alternative and local way to build new quays and terminals in the Canal Dock zone, potentially adaptable to a business model for other building projects. The aim is to replace up to 40% of the original sand in the concrete with local “upcycled sand” , offering numerous benefits, such as reduced environmental impact and local reclamation and reuse.
