[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] PIONEERS and MAGPIE's interactive workshop [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]PIONEERS and MAGPIE, two flagship green port projects of the European Commission, hosted an engaging workshop on 24 April 2024, in Paris, France.   Titled "Smart Green Ports of the Future", this session took on the format of an interactive “Dragon’s Den” style game, showcasing four innovative solutions from both projects aimed at revolutionizing the maritime industry.   Gearte Nynke Noteboom from Zero Emission Services presented PIONEERS' demonstration "Corridor of Modular Docking Stations for Energy Containers", followed by Celeste Muilwijk from the Port of Rotterdam, who introduced MAGPIE's demo "Spreading Road Traffic". Chiara Saragani from CENIT presented PIONEERS' "Maritime 5G for Intelligent Vessel Location" and then, Muriel Andurand from CIRCOE showcased MAGPIE's demonstration: "Digital Tools for Carbon and Multimodality".   The on-site participants acted as the jury of these four pitches, evaluating each demo pitch against three key criteria: scalability, innovation level and potential risks. After the count of the jury's votes,...

Port of Venlo’s stakeholder meeting

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Port of Venlo's stakeholder meeting [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On 19 April 2024, the Port of Venlo in the Netherlands hosted a stakeholder kick-off meeting to begin calculating the ecological footprint of the Venlo port area, focusing on CO2, NOx, and PM emissions.   BISCI (Maastricht University, Fontys and TNO) will calculate the total emissions of the port. This comprehensive study will gather emissions data from at least ten individual companies as well as ship movements within the port. This initiative is unique as it addresses a gap in current environmental guidelines, which typically cover emissions for individual companies but not for entire areas.   The insights gained from this study will be instrumental in shaping the PIONEERS' Green Port Master Plan. Furthermore, the results will inform the Rhombus Upside project, the port's expansion efforts, and the MIRT Realisation Pact Venlo.   Don't miss the boat! Stay tuned with #PIONEERSeuports as we sail towards sustainable and smart ports![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_raw_html]JTNDc3R5bGUlM0UlMEEucW9kZWYtcG9ydGZvbGlvLXRpdGxlJTIwJTdCJTBBJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwRElTUExBWSUzQSUyME5PTkUlMjAlMjFpbXBvcnRhbnQlM0IlMEElN0QlMEEuc21hbGwtc2xpZGVyLnFvZGVmLXBvcnRmb2xpby1zaW5nbGUtaG9sZGVyJTIwJTdCJTBBJTIwJTIwJTIwJTIwTUFSR0lOLVRPUCUzQSUyMDEwMFBYJTIwJTIxaW1wb3J0YW50JTNCJTBBJTdEJTBBJTNDJTJGc3R5bGUlM0U=[/vc_raw_html][/vc_column][/vc_row]...

Belgian’s First Green Hydrogen Boiler in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Belgian's First Green Hydrogen Boiler in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In a groundbreaking move towards climate neutrality, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges has launched a pilot project at one of the port's buildings with a boiler running entirely on green hydrogen.   This initiative, a collaboration between Imtech, Remeha, Solencopower, and the port authorities under the PIONEERS project, demonstrates the feasibility of climate-neutral technology. It is the first time such a boiler has been used in Belgium for a workshop of this size.   The green hydrogen used in this boiler is sourced entirely from renewable energy, with 70% coming from locally produced green energy from surplus solar panels and 30% from grid-based green power purchases.   This project marks a significant milestone in the port's ambitious climate plan aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.   Read the full press release here.   Read more about the demo here.   Don't miss the boat and join PIONEERS in Shaping the Green Ports...

Workshop on challenges and innovations in Inland Shipping

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Workshop on challenges and innovations in Inland Shipping [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On 22 March 2024, PIONEERS consortium partners, Stefan van Doorn and Gearte Nynke Noteboom, from Zero Emission Services (ZES), attended a workshop organised by the Antwerp-Bruges Port Authority in Willebroek, Belgium. The workshop focused on the challenges associated with electrifying inland shipping, a critical aspect of the ongoing feasibility study conducted by ZES in the context of the PIONEERS project. This study is instrumental in developing the Green Port Master Plan.   Together with other partners, Danser Group, Hutchison Ports, Port of Antwerp-Bruges and the Municipality of Venlo, ZES is developing a European corridor of mobile charging infrastructure for inland vessels. The main objectives are to: Minimize the environmental footprint of inland navigation; Reduce noise and air pollution; Stabilise the electricity grid while making more efficient use of renewable energy sources; Lower operational costs for inland navigation.   If you want to learn more about this demo, click...
