We’re excited to share the latest PIONEERS demonstrator video showcasing –  A Corridor of Modular Docking Stations for Energy Containers. 

One promising solution being developed within the PIONEERS consortium by partner ZES is battery-electric sailing. This concept relies on large battery containers, known as ZESpacks, which store advanced lithium-ion energy to power barges. When a ZESpack runs out of charge, it can be quickly swapped for a fully charged unit at modular docking stations located along a defined network. This swap system eliminates downtime, allowing vessels to continue sailing without delays or harmful emissions.

The main objective of this demonstration is to assess whether battery-powered barges and modular docking stations can provide a practical, scalable, and sustainable solution for inland shipping.
