From 28th to 30th June, under the EU French Presidency, the European Commission organised the Connecting Europe Days in Lyon – formerly known as TEN-T days. This event brought together politicians, industry representatives and members of the Commission to discuss transport and mobility issues and their role in achieving the ambitious goals set out in the European Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy. In particular, the 2022 edition focused on explaining different initiatives, projects and programmes to make the European transport network greener and more resilient in line with the EU policy objectives.
Both PIONEERS and its sister project, MAGPIE, led by Port of Antwerp-Bruges and Port of Rotterdam, respectively, have their common ambition to scale up the current state-of-the-art of ports through demonstrating and implementing smart solutions to reduce ports’ environmental footprint and move towards GHG-neutral shipping by introducing clean energy production, storage and supply. In this context, PIONEERS and MAGPIE made a joint pitch during the event to present the path to the European Green Port of the Future.
