“Energy PIONEERS” in the Port of Antwerp

“Energy PIONEERS” in the Port of Antwerp

The first collaboration within the PIONEERS project starts with the implementation phase in the Antwerp Euroterminal (AET).

Indeed within the multipurpose terminal in Verrebroek – specialized in the handling of containers, project cargo, general cargo and all types of vehicles – Antwerp Euroterminal (AET) is implementing an energy transition strategy based on the installation of solar panels and wind turbines that will ensure that on a daily basis, in ideal conditions, a maximum capacity of 12.6 Megawatts of green energy can be generated on the company site.

In order to make the use of the generated electricity more flexible regardless of the presence of the wind or sun, AET together with the PIONEERS consortium partners, have developed a storage strategy that will allow detaching the power consumption from power production.

With the unloading at the terminal of the first Air Plus Powerpack and the related test where electric cars are being charged during their inspection at import with the green energy from the wind turbines, the collaboration between AET, the Port of Antwerp and Envision represents the first one within the PIONEERS project that starts with the implementation phase.

With the Energy Management System (EMS) from Envision, AET will be able to gain a first experience with the optimized coordination of the consumption and production of green energy on-site and the PIONEERS project is a protagonist of this innovation.
