Belgian’s First Green Hydrogen Boiler in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges

Belgian’s First Green Hydrogen Boiler in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges

In a groundbreaking move towards climate neutrality, the Port of Antwerp-Bruges has launched a pilot project at one of the port’s buildings with a boiler running entirely on green hydrogen.

This initiative, a collaboration between Imtech, Remeha, Solencopower, and the port authorities under the PIONEERS project, demonstrates the feasibility of climate-neutral technology. It is the first time such a boiler has been used in Belgium for a workshop of this size.

The green hydrogen used in this boiler is sourced entirely from renewable energy, with 70% coming from locally produced green energy from surplus solar panels and 30% from grid-based green power purchases.

This project marks a significant milestone in the port’s ambitious climate plan aimed at achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
