[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] PIONEERS presents an innovative demo on local resource recovery for green and circular concrete at Flemish Port Open Day [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On May 7th, 2023, the Flemish ports of Antwerp-Bruges, Ostend and Ghent opened their doors to the public for the sixth time. The Flemish Government, a partner of the PIONEERS project, organised the event.   PIONEERS partners VITO and Buildwise, presented the demo on local resource recovery for green and circular concrete under the Sustainable Port Design pillar at the innovation hub on the left bank of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges. The demo showcased an innovative approach to producing circular concrete for, e.g., new quays and terminals around the Canal Dock zone. This approach has several benefits by partially using sand aggregate in concrete, including reduced environmental impact and local reclamation and reuse. Additionally, fine sand is used instead of coarse sand, which makes it a unique and innovative method.   The PIONEERS project is committed...

ATS and CMB.TECH launch World’s First Hydrogen Dual-Fuel Straddle Carrier

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] Antwerp Terminal Services and CMB.TECH launch World's First Hydrogen Dual-Fuel Straddle Carrier [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]On 30th March 2023, during a brief ceremony in Port of Antwerp-Bruges, Antwerp Terminal Services (ATS) and PSA Antwerp launched the world's first dual-fuel hydrogen straddle carrier together with CMB.TECH, playing an important role in reducing terminal greenhouse gas emissions.   Using state-of-the-art H2 dual-fuel combustion engine technology, developed by cleantech company CMB.TECH and integrated into a straddle carrier with the support of ATS, the machine runs on a mix of hydrogen and diesel. The dual-fuel technology is able to replace 70% of diesel consumption with hydrogen on new straddle carriers, with the eventual goal of 100% hydrogen injection.   Following a 24-month design and development phase, the partners will now start the dual-fuel straddle carrier's performance in live operations at PSAA's Noordzee Terminal. Through this research, partners aim to improve the equipment's design and other aspects necessary to scale up this new technology,...

[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We are thrilled to announce that PIONEERS is featured in the Euronew's documentary OCEAN.   Recently, the ports of Bruges and Antwerp have merged into one of the largest ports in Europe with an ambition to become one of the most sustainable. But how will this goal be achieved?   The second episode of Euronews' OCEAN documentary explains the commitment of the Port of Antwerp-Bruges to scale up the current state-of-the-art and the path towards fulfilling the goals of a sustainable port.   In PIONEERS, 19 demonstrations will be implemented, providing concrete solutions at a local level, in the 4 pillars of the project: clean energy production, storage and supply, modal shift and flows optimisation, sustainable port design, and digital transformation. By the end of the project, the ambition is to deliver a Green Port Master Plan that can be used for ports across Europe and beyond. Therefore, PIONEERS...
